STRATEGIC CONSULTING
Jane’s highly tuned commercial approach has delivered results multiple times throughout her career. Whether advising on routes to closing deals, devising and instigating new opportunities for growth, or evaluating the business models of the multiple new types of music services which arrived at the dawn of the digital explosion, Jane’s expertise can help identify commercial opportunities and risks.
There is no rocket science involved, the tools and processes that are required and which Jane applies include:-
A review of income and expenditure which often indicates flaws in business models which can often be fixed. While at MCPS Jane’s review of one licence scheme while at MCPS turned a low 6-figure licence to a significant 7-figure licence revenue.
Common sense, which is essential to create success. Businesses can often be distracted by surrounding noise and self doubt. Jane’s common sense has been a useful asset throughout her career.
Lateral thinking is critical. Joining the dots, seeing how cause influences effect, and how decisions made in one area of your business can impact on other areas.
Logical approaches to problem solving. The thought process required needs focus, logic and intellect. This skillset has enabled Jane to create legal protocols, as well as project management for the outsourcing tender of a £150m business.
Opportunity can come from any direction and can be fleeting. It is essential to identify opportunities and act quickly. Jane’s decisiveness can encourage you to do so.
An understanding of the landscape. This is particularly important for businesses in or connected with the music industry which remains in a period of constant disruption, whether the move from physical to digital, the embracing of web3, NFTs and catalogue sales or the arrival of AI.
Passion is central to success. There are no really successful businesses that don’t have a passion for what they do. Jane’s passion is for business and enterprise.
Jane’s strong network across multiple industries from her investment both in her own and other peoples’ careers has been established over 30 years.
Humour is not often regarded as a skill, but it is essential in business, whether in creating networks or just getting through the day.
All of these skills came together on the In Rainbows project with Radiohead which Jane was involved with at a really early stage. Here’s what they said:-
“Without the support of Jane, the release of Radiohead’s album In Rainbows could never have happened. She was a key member of the very small circle of people who were party to the planning of that innovative release. The Radiohead team will be forever indebted to her willingness to challenge the status quo and push boundaries in the name of art, she is a one off.”
